AT&T’s commitment as a main partner for Windows Phone 7 was confirmed this afternoon as a leak has pointed to a smartphone coming to the network. Known so far only by its T8788 codename, the device would be a slider but would hide a large speaker, not the usual keyboard. Engadget added that it would have an Evo 4G-style kickstand on the back for movie viewing.
Few other pieces of information have slipped out, including whether or not the phone is the finished version of previously seen prototypes. It’s unlikely to be the Mozart, but whether or not the phone is the Mondrian is also unknown. HTC appears to have given the phone a 3.7-inch or larger screen and will almost certainly have a fast processor and a five-megapixel or better camera.
The T8788′s existence suggests AT&T will have most if not all of the Windows Phone 7 devices when they ship in November. HTC’s phone joins the LG C900 QWERTY slider and the touch-only Samsung Cetus as part of AT&T’s initial strategy.
