T-Mobile G2: $199 on Sept. 29th

The T-Mobile G2 is here. The successor to the phone that started the Android craze, the third high-end QWERTY keyboard device to enter market, and the first device to ship with stock Android 2.2 Froyo onboard. The phone looks to be shipping on September 29th with the nation’s fourth largest network. The phone will be T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ device, which means that the G2 will be packing some serious upload-download speeds in good T-Mobile coverage areas.
Inside, the G2 sports a Qualcomm Scorpion processor, which improves upon last year’s Snapdragon chip line by offering better graphics performance both 2D and 3D. The processor will be clocked at 800 MHz for extra battery life. The phone will also support high-definition 720p video recording and playback.
It’s screen looks to be a 3.7-inch SLCD or AMOLED display. We’re guessing SLCD due to the fact that AMOLED displays are currently sold out just about everywhere. It won’t be rocking the Samsung Galaxy S’ Super AMOLED, because Samsung has exclusive rights to offer that screen for a full year before other manufacturers can include it in products.
The QWERTY keyboard packed into this device looks very nice and has raised, domed buttons. But, there is no dedicated number row and no arrow directional pad.
Look for this device to ship at the end of the month on T-Mobile.
