T-Mobile kicked off the CTIA trade show Monday with exciting product news, but this time the device was bigger than usual: the Audi A8.
T-Mobile has been named the U.S. wireless carrier for the Audi 2012 luxury car lineup with the new “Audi Connect“ system. Audi Connect services include Google Earth, Google Local Search, and Sirius Traffic information combined with Google Earth imagery. The system lets users obtain real-time news, weather and nearby fuel prices. Audi Connect can also turn the vehicle into a secure, rolling Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing passengers to cruise the information super highway while traversing the literal highway.
“From our robust, nationwide network to our cutting-edge SIM technology, T-Mobile innovates so that customers can connect and access information from nearly anywhere,” said John Horn, National Director of M2M at T-Mobile. “The Audi Connect service is a great example of how the vehicle ownership experience can be enhanced with wireless connectivity and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.“
The first of these cars, the A7, is due to hit showrooms in April. Audi Connect will also come in the 2012 Audi models of the A6, A8 and Q7, as well as future vehicles such as the Q5 hybrid.
T-Mobile SIM cards are included with the vehicle and customers can sign up for a service plan at the time of vehicle sale or any time during or after a six-month complimentary trial period.
